Our Learning Spaces
10 Years & School Expansion
We are pleased to announce that we have extended our lease at our 21 South End Avenue riverside location, including an expanded footprint that will allow for increased programming and enrollment beginning in Fall 2023.
Classrooms
We designed our space to feel warm, airy and filled with natural light. Soft suede curtains push back to allow all children to work in the setting of the Hudson River with the Statue of Liberty visible in the distance. All around the classrooms are views of the river and access to the patio that wraps around the school for a true theater of seasons experience! Spring blossoms, multicolored fall leaves, and big flakes of snow add a serene magical quality to every day. Inspired by the beautiful schools of northern Europe, we kept the tones warm and natural and made of wood and simple, elegant design. Our treehouse beckons children inside for imaginative play, a shared story with a friend and a new perspective.
New! Arts and Athletics Center at 156 William Street
Just a short walk from our sister school Pine Street School, in the heart of the Financial District, the new Arts and Athletics Center will take experiential learning to the next level. Designed to inspire creativity, athleticism, and community, the Center is beautifully appointed with flexible learning spaces including, dance and movement rooms, fine art and music areas, lockers, basketball/volleyball court, performing arts stage, and so much more. The 2023-2024 school year will provide expanded opportunities for students at both Pine Street School and Battery Park Montessori, and their families to take full advantage of the new event center.
Outdoor Space
The patio space at Battery Park Montessori is accessible from every classroom and provides an exclusive space for our students to play and learn. Located on the waterfront side of our school, the students enjoy the safe, enclosed riverside patio space to run, build, and garden. Teachers connect learning in the garden to the science curriculum throughout the year.
Our home on the South Cove waterfront in Battery Park City is the ideal setting for learning and growing. From our light-filled classrooms, we have access to the NYC waterfront and marina, world class playgrounds, the Seaglass Carousel, and the Skyscraper Museum.
We are located in the heart of one of NYC’s most beautiful natural environments, right on the Hudson River and in a community where one can walk for over a mile without crossing a street. Our neighborhood is filled with grassy lawns, trees, and playgrounds. Plus, we are a short walk from Battery Park and the Urban Farm, where our students manage a plot of seasonal vegetables. Our curriculum derives from our location, and there is a constant focus on nature as a source of inspiration and learning. We go out in all seasons to learn from nature in the most exciting hands-on way possible.
