Welcome from Our Head of School

Dear Prospective Parent,

Over the years, as a parent, educator, and consultant, I’ve learned that one cannot underestimate the power of finding that “right fit” community that values and respects each child and will partner with parents to support their child in being the best version of themselves today and into the future.  Where you send your child to school during such formative years is a big decision to make and involves not only envisioning your child’s experience while at school but also who your child can become with such schooling.

Knowing first-hand how much you have to consider when making this decision, I invite you to visit a school that will “tick” many of your boxes. Pine Street School is a multilingual International Baccalaureate (IB) community that encourages students and their families to inquire, think critically, work collaboratively, and to construct meaning, reflect and take action all the while stimulating their natural curiosity in the world around them. Pine Street School is the only Primary to Middle years IB World School in lower Manhattan offering both Spanish and Mandarin language tracks. Pine Street School is a place guided by an intellectually challenging curriculum – one that drives preschoolers to collect rain data in two languages in order to understand rainfall over time and its impact on the environment and that drives middle schoolers to explore the use of technologies like AI or robots for sustainability initiatives.

As we near our ten-year anniversary, we also have so many distinctions to share with you and to
celebrate:  A newly dedicated middle school building at 156 William Street and expansion plans for 25 Pine Street to include more classroom spaces and a communal area, are just some ways we’ve
commemorated this special year.  I welcome you to see these natural light-filled spaces and how they are
purposefully and appropriately designed for children and their learning at every level!  Not to mention, our distinct NYC locations enable children to have access to the financial district’s rich architecture and history while also having access to the rest of the city and world.

In addition to celebrating our facilities, we’ve recently become accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) which upholds exceptionally high standards of education, similar to that of the IB. We are adding this distinction to our other accomplishments such as being an Apple Distinguished School – a feat which requires one to one MacBooks for teachers and children alike and is in line with our forward thinking approach to technology.

In these last ten years, we have become an international community that attracts brilliant and passionate
educators.  Not only do the majority of our teachers hold advanced degrees in education, but they also
have countless certifications and experiences from around the world, not to mention that our teachers are
IB trained. Our hope is that each family and child not only reap the benefits of our faculty and staff’s
expertise, but also find that our intentionally “small school” was and is designed so that we can be partners in your journey as parents – something that each faculty and staff member takes great pride in.

I welcome you to experience this gem of a school located in the heart and birthplace of New York City!  If
you find that you value working together to help your child acquire the personal attributes, global outlook, communication skills, and knowledge that will equip them to play an active part in the construction of tomorrow’s world, look no further – Pine Street School is right for your family.

Warm regards,
Anna Rita
