Deron Marvin, Head of School, Silicon Valley

Deron is a native of the Bay Area, founding Head of School of Green Ivy Silicon Valley, and a thought leader in international education with over 23 years of experience in schools worldwide. He has held leadership and educator roles in some of the world’s most prestigious international schools and participated in the accreditation of many more. Deron has also published dozens of articles and led numerous workshops on topics ranging from instructional leadership to the thoughtful integration of technology in schools. He holds advanced degrees in education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and Michigan State University as well as a Fellowship from the Klingenstein Center. Deron’s early career began as a teacher in San Francisco and as a part-time U.S. National Park Service Ranger. He lives with his partner and curriculum specialist, Laurie Ransom, and they have a daughter attending college in Boston.

Lucy Yan 闫潞霞, Primary Years Program (PYP) Coordinator and Mandarin Teacher

Lucy leads Primary Years Program (age 2 - 5th Grade) and Mandarin language instruction with more than 20 years of academic and administration experience in international schools in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore and more. She has served as Head of School and Curriculum Director and has led numerous International Baccalaureate school evaluations across Asia. She believes passionately in the core IB value of student agency and in allowing students to have voice, choice, and leadership.

Douglas Palacios, Spanish Program Coordinator and Spanish Teacher

Douglas leads our Spanish language program with over 20 years experience in California Independent Schools as a curriculum developer and teacher trainer. He is a native level trilingual language and literature teacher in English, Spanish, and French, well-traveled and internationally-minded with a deep commitment to diversity, inclusivity and academic excellence. Douglas has taught all grade levels of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and Primary Years Programme (PYP) and has lived, studied, and worked in France, El Salvador, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. He holds a master’s degree with an emphasis in Language Pedagogy from the University of California at Berkeley. A native of El Salvador, Douglas arrived in the U.S. at age 12 and quickly achieved fluency in multiple languages. Today he lives with his mother, his teen daughter, and his son who is now a professional musician. In his spare time, he loves to volunteer as an ESL teacher and write poetry for children.

Anna Hung 洪晨芳, Admissions and Marketing Coordinator

Anna was born and raised in Taiwan. She came to the US in 2018 to pursue higher education. After receiving her M.S. degree in Project Management with a concentration in Communications at Northeastern University in Boston, she worked at a non-profit, where she helped to amplify Asian voices in the local community through media campaigns and community projects. After relocating to sunny California in 2020, she worked at several startup companies as a Marketing Specialist. Specializing in Marketing, Project Coordination, and Business Development, Anna also found a passion for working in educational settings, building human connections, and supporting the community she loves. She is thrilled to welcome families to the Green Ivy International School - Silicon Valley family and support the San Jose community. In her free time, Anna loves traveling, watching movies, and outdoor activities.
